When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she'd only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head...

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the universe of the Lux in this brand new series, featuring beloved characters both new and old.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a Jennifer Armentrout book and, at this very moment I’m chastising myself over it. I hadn’t forgotten her wonderful characters or her intriguing storylines from my past reads and wondered if this story would capture my attention as they had. I’m happy to report that this book had it all. It was like coming home. I so enjoyed being back in the Lux world and spending time with characters I knew while meeting new ones and I absolutely loved the intrigue of it all. As with all her stories, this book has smart humor, sweet romance, and a juicy plot to sink your teeth into.

As Evie stumbles across a world she didn’t know existed, at least not in the way she had been told, she finds out about herself and her family. And, in amongst the drama of having her world turned upside down is a sexy guy she can’t help but be intrigued by. Oh…and boy was I intrigued too! Luc is sexy, sly, mysterious, and oh so arrogant. But, gosh, my heart beat just a little bit faster each time I read his name. Deep down, I knew that he’s have a sweet side and I patiently waited for it to be revealed. And, when it was, an audible sigh escaped me. Luc’s desire to keep Evie safe, yet his need to have her understand what’s going on wars within him. And, it’s this constant internal battle that makes him unpredictable in the best possible way. I loved their banter and their chemistry. The romance is swoon worthy and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Of course, there is a story alongside that of Evie and Luc, and it’s certainly an interesting one. Aliens live among humans as we saw in the Lux series previously. But now it’s in a seemingly peaceful way. However, as we all know, things are most dangerous when all appears to be running smoothly. The underbelly of the Lux world has lots of intrigue for us to explore and lots of secrets to uncover. And, lucky for us, this book is just the tip of the iceberg. I can’t wait see what happens next. I hope Ms. Armentrout is writing furiously because even though it’s only been days since I finished this story, I’m ready to jump right back in.
